Birth control
To Prevent Pregnancy
There are many methods of birth control that can help prevent an unplanned pregnancy, however, it is important to note that nothing is 100% effective other than abstinence. Birth control pills are a prescription medication that uses hormones to prevent a pregnancy by blocking sperm from the uterus or preventing ovulation. Although, this form of birth control is highly effective in preventing preganancy it does not prevent against STDs, so it is important to still use a condom.
There are some factors that prevent the use of birth controls pills and other hormonal birth control treatments. Smoking, high blood pressure, and heart disease when combined with birth control may cause serious blood clots and sometimes death.
For Health Reasons
Sometimes, birth control pills are prescribed for reasons other than preventing pregnancy. The most common of these reasons is the occurrence of irregular menstrual cycles often accompanied by heavy bleeding. Irregular cycles are often a sign of more serious problems such as ovarian cysts. Birth control pills can clear some or all of these cysts as well as regulate your cycle.
